Originally settled as a cotton plantation in 1810, the area was later developed in 1910 as Atlanta’s first country club neighborhood, known as the Capital City Country Club. In the 1980s, Brookhaven was placed on the National Register of Historic Places; however, the community has had tremendous financial growth in recent years and incorporated in 2012.
Homes in this affluent community range from 100-year old Georgian cottage homes to 1950 ranches to current large traditional floorplans. There are seven districts in Brookhaven that offer a wide range of options for homebuyers. Historic Brookhaven includes homes designed in the pre-war period and is surrounded by the Capital City Country Club. Brookhaven Village is the area’s urban town center and includes mixed-use developments and single family homes. Lynwood Park is located east of Sandy Springs and has a combination of small ranches up to larger craftsman-style homes available. Town Brookhaven is a mixed-use development on Peachtree that includes 1500 residential units, 150,000 sq. ft. of office space and a dozen major commercial retail establishments. North Brookhaven is known for its suburban feel, two parks and access to some of the area’s best schools. Buford Highway and Lenox Park are the last two neighborhoods in Brookhaven, and are a combination of business and residential occupants.
Brookhaven is an outdoor enthusiasts dream. The neighborhood has several parks, two major lakes, golf courses and walking trails including the Nancy Creek PATH trail. Some of the larger parks like Ashford Park, Blackburn Park, and Briarwood Park, have tennis courts, basketball courts, playgrounds, meeting facilities, soccer fields, picnic areas, swimming pools, lakes and trails.
